PRIVATE COMMUNITY CLUB MARINA, FAMILY MEMBERSHIP BY INVITATION.
Location, 1218 Purnong Rd. Mannum
We welcome houseboating families who like our small group SACE program as most suitable for their teens. Families or single parents are welcome to live on campus and help. Finances can be negotiated. The community welcomes member family residential river boats moored in the marina. The boats must remain mobile. Although our focus is SACE years, we can help with the younger siblings as well. Mannum Community College State school runs a school bus past the resort. Chat with Principal Bouc about this.
The Marina site is is home base for the college with cookery and tech studies.
Full time student backpacker home for Aerie students is on the Aerie "School ships", or family owned river boats at berth in the college marina. The Aerie boats are all in commercial vessel survey and will home port at the Aerie Community Marina. They are all capable of cruising the length of the river in SA, deliberately remote from previous distractions. This is planned as a complete change in lifestyle that will help young people change their view of life and their future. In practice, most boats with stay near to the resort marina to remain part of community activities.
All time spent with Aerie College is recorded in each student's personal log and signed off by their mentor teacher as evidence of school attendance, required by law, until their 17th birthday.
Aerie College promotes wellness as its major focus. We find and fill gaps in learning and provide safe time to transition to strong, competent, confident young adults. We keep costs as low as possible with backpacker style hospitality and peer service skills for living and learning.
SACE curriculum documentation is our learning guide.
Some parents are too difficult. As a private school we can refuse parent entry.
Our SACE curriculum focus is on community skills, care services. and adventure tourism leadership.
As a family investment collective club, Aerie College (Registered Community Charity) will purchase safe family holiday place near the Murray River, or river boats as homes, to host the Aerie College Adventure school for teens who feel pushed out of their school and/or home or entering depression.
Older teens seek Adventure with partners and a team of friends.
Teens in severe stress in school or home, want out. Many try to fly too soon and get hurt. They need to be accepted. They do things with undesirable consequences, just to be part of the group or "to be a friend".
We have open discussions about human physiology, fitness, health and care services, including building strong close friend partnerships that resist dangerous play. YES, we include discussions about baby making, and the consequences.
Aerie College can hold them before their life gets too difficult. We help them with changes necessary to repair their damaged wings, to fly safely.
Aerie College can provide the necessary safe adventure change for mental repair, and a safe home base (nest) for fledging in the proposed community resort properties and residential team river boats. We help teens of any age, who feels pushed out of their school or home (real, or imagined), or just wanting different and adventure.
Supportive Families join Aerie Community, enjoy our collegiate community lifestyle, and help their kids.
Backpacks offer several advantages for older teen students entering college:
Current Aerie College capital value of an Annual "Loan Licence to Occupy a sheltered sleep bag space" is $35,000. (Approximate rent value $8/night) This value is expected to increase over time as college entry places become popular. The Licence can be resold at current value to new students on graduation, and no longer need the bed. The licence can be held as an investment and rented out to another renting student for 10% return on capital value.
Aerie students roll out their swags on the floor. All our students learn swag camping skills.

Building a small wooden boat might sound like a daunting task, but it's a rewarding journey that connects you to a rich maritime tradition. Let's chart a course through the essentials.
Why Small and Why Wood?
Small wooden boats offer a fantastic entry point into boatbuilding. They're generally less expensive, require less space to build, and the skills you learn are transferable to larger projects down the line. Wood, as a material, is beautiful, forgiving, and surprisingly strong. It offers a unique aesthetic and a satisfying tactile experience throughout the building process.
Choosing Your Design: This is where the adventure truly begins! Think about how you intend to use your boat. A simple flat-bottomed skiff is great for calm waters and fishing, while a canoe or kayak offers a different kind of exploration. Numerous free and paid plans are available online and in books. Start simple!
A Simplified Approach
Building the Framework: This typically involves creating the boat's "skeleton" using frames or molds.
Planking: Attaching the wooden panels (planks) to the framework to create the hull. Various techniques exist, such as stitch-and-glue, lapstrake, and clinker.
Joining and Sealing: Securely joining the hull components and using epoxy to create a watertight structure.
Interior Work: Adding thwarts, seats, and other internal features.
Finishing: Sanding, painting, or varnishing the boat to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
