SEND YOUR UNHAPPY TEEN TO AERIE COLLEGE FOR ADVENTURE EDUCATION SUCCESS AND WILDERNESS HAPPINESS
Aerie Residential Adventure College kids live backpacker style, low cost, no extra baggage, learning with student teams of 16 boys and girls, with teacher couple on River Murray houseboats and Plenty of kayaking.
Aerie Senior College helps teens who are finding senior high school life too difficult
THE HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT RATE LAST YEAR WAS 24% many leaving before the age 17
SEND THEM TO Aerie Residential Adventure College for a teacher guided flight to Challenge Adventure learning, on a remote houseboat cruise school where we let the young eagles fly safely.
AERIE COLLEGE SENIOR COLLEGE OFFERS A CHANGE OPTION FOR THESE KIDS.
1st term enrolment "Come and Try" decision program. The college river cruise boat "Aerie" works "time out" cruising the river from Aerie Marina to Renmark and back with a fleet of double kayaks for regular exercise. - - - Then, the student, their family and the principal make a Stay or Leave decision after 1st term. - - - Will the Aerie College learning style be of benefit to their child? Stay or Leave.
New students live in large houseboats as a team of 16 with a resident teacher and aid in charge of the boat.
Later when they have learned the close living skills they can spread out over a fleet of smaller family boats that stay together under one teacher as fleet master in charge of a group fleet. Teachers are in charge of all student residence boats.
All Aerie students live and learn with team of 16 students, male and female together, backpacker swag style on a School-houseboat or your family boat based at the college marina, their safe Aerie. We talk about making babies, but not part of our practical adventure learning at this stage, close friendships, yes, but not into each other. That game is for later. If families have river boats, smaller boat can work and stay together to accommodate your team of 16 students. Their teachers supervise the residential team in a large houseboat or perhaps other family boat living arrangement.
We offer a SACE study program including the essentials and a selection of interest subjects of their own choice that will come together to complete their SACE certificate. It does not need to be completed in two years. It is a challenge that holds them on a task that has a recognised goal, during their years of becoming adult. The fledging years can be a disaster without this kind of focus. Large schools are not always the best place to achieve this. Same old, same old, has no motivation or challenge, especially if their experience in their old school has not been good.
We welcome family participation in all our activities, but request non-interference with the work of our teachers.
We use adventure and small team close living as our lifestyle. Aerie Students are full time resident on river boats as school-ships, each with a fleet of double kayaks. Each school ship hosts a groups of 16 teens and 2 teachers, cruising the Murray in SA. The school ships provide the complete change adventure, remote from old distractions, the challenge needed for unhappy teens to reboot their brain. Brilliance will emerge if freedom is encouraged. However, chaos may emerge. The advantage of houseboats? Wild cats do not like to swim. So chaos can be managed.
Our motivation as very experienced teachers, is to guide the wild young birds safely through the two years of fledging. - The SACE years.
Aerie College SACE curriculum is a river tourism, hospitality, care services and river environmental studies program selected from the SACE list as adventure challenge wilderness education. Just because we have to have a curriculum as a school, ie something to do as a challenge, and they need to be competent in safe living skills. We start students first term with "Time Out" full time river cruising on "Aerie" Backpacker riverboat, studying a revision curriculum, SACE essentials and cookery, care services and outdoor recreation SACE subjects as a "Come and Try." - - - Then family & Principal discussion, Stay or leave.
Those who stay continue adventure learning at the Community Club Marina and crewing the boats. They will achieve their SACE with Aerie. They may move on to VET certificates if they stay. We offer continuing community residential support at Berri campus for our student's attending Berri TAFE. We welcome family participation in all our activities, but request non-interference with the work of our teachers. Chat with Principal for more details.
Our unique riverfront, private marinas are both Community club and residential senior high school home campus. Both have a long history of school use. The school classrooms are both on the resort and on the River Boats hosting 16 students managed by a teacher and aid.

Building a small wooden boat might sound like a daunting task, but it's a rewarding journey that connects you to a rich maritime tradition. Let's chart a course through the essentials.
Why Small and Why Wood?
Small wooden boats offer a fantastic entry point into boatbuilding. They're generally less expensive, require less space to build, and the skills you learn are transferable to larger projects down the line. Wood, as a material, is beautiful, forgiving, and surprisingly strong. It offers a unique aesthetic and a satisfying tactile experience throughout the building process.
Choosing Your Design: This is where the adventure truly begins! Think about how you intend to use your boat. A simple flat-bottomed skiff is great for calm waters and fishing, while a canoe or kayak offers a different kind of exploration. Numerous free and paid plans are available online and in books. Start simple!
A Simplified Approach
Building the Framework: This typically involves creating the boat's "skeleton" using frames or molds.
Planking: Attaching the wooden panels (planks) to the framework to create the hull. Various techniques exist, such as stitch-and-glue, lapstrake, and clinker.
Joining and Sealing: Securely joining the hull components and using epoxy to create a watertight structure.
Interior Work: Adding thwarts, seats, and other internal features.
Finishing: Sanding, painting, or varnishing the boat to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
